Hey guys! My name is Rachel Seitz and I’m a born and raised South Louisiana girl. Being around kids and helping kids has always been a passion of mine, which has led me to where I am now. Working as a summer intern for Hope for Opelousas, which I learned about from the college I attend, Bryan College.

So far being around the kids and working with them has been a total blessing. Of course at times they can be challenging but they help me grow along with me helping them to grow. It’s amazing how in these few short weeks I can already see the growth in some of our students. Some showing their true love for learning, even if they don’t want to admit it, ou can see their faces light up when they get the answers correctly; or their attitudes so positive when they get what’s going on within the classroom. In others their growth is behavioral, where they were my students that participated the least and now that they believe they can, or see that us interns care and believe that they can achieve great things, they now have new motivation to listen and learn.

My hopes for this summer are that our students can grow intellectually but also I want them to grow personally. I believe that a teacher’s job is not just to throw students out in the world to where they can be intelligent people in our society, but I believe that a teacher’s real role is to build character, to grow a student that can better our society both intellectually and behaviorally. To build leaders, to build women and men to be a better generation, for the next generation to look up to and continue the pattern. This is what I hope to achieve not only at HFO, but anywhere that God takes me to mentor and teach children. Lastly I want these kids to know they are loved, they are supported, and that above all, there is a God, Jesus Christ, who died for them, and at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter who became president, it doesn’t matter who has the most money, but what matters is their relation with God!
