Mission + Ministry

Mission Teams

What good can come from Opelousas? Well, we aren’t the only ones who believe there is something special going on in our city. Our Mission Teams and visitors from throughout the country provide the opportunity for people to come and experience how “Love Changes Everything” firsthand.  HFO has had the honor of regularly hosting mission teams from local churches and colleges around the country. Visiting teams of up to 20 stay at ‘Hope House,’ this resource makes serving with us a very inexpensive domestic mission opportunity.

HFO has hosted mission teams from as far away as Tennessee, Iowa, and Washington states, and as close as the city of Lafayette, with many more sure to follow.  HFO has hosted mission teams of junior high students, college students, and adult volunteers of up to 30 members. We are open to families, church groups, or college teams—if you have a group interested, we’d love to be in contact!

Ministry

Hope for Opelousas believes Love Changes Everything.  And that means Love that is unconditional for many people in our community.  Most of our work centers around the kids that we tutor and work with each day.  However, we do not discount the fact that these kids live in a community with adults who deserve love as well.  They also have parents, grandparents, teachers and other adults in their lives that benefit from love as well.  The ministries of Hope for Opelousas provide an opportunity to do just that.

I came to work for Opelousas and HFO this summer because they have a piece of my heart. Education is something that has always been very important to me and I truly believe in HFO’s mission...I have personally seen how HFO impacts kids and what a great organization it is. I am so incredibly excited to be a part of HFO and work within the community of Opelousas.

SUMMER INTERNS

One of the best ways to grow the passion for non-profit service is through relationships with young people!

We offer annual summer internships to individuals who have had experience serving with HFO. This internship is a great way to stay in touch with HFO and gain more in-depth experience working in the Opelousas community.

Some summer projects include building curriculum for the following school year, working with community programming, attending enrichment trips with our current students, and intern training. To express your interest in this internship or to learn more please fill out the summer intern application!

Hope House

In 2019 Hope House was purchased by HFO for use as a destination for mission teams, retreats, sports teams and nonprofit groups wanting to work in Opelousas and the surrounding area. It is a beautiful historic home that boasts 1799 sq ft. of original wood floors, an oversized kitchen, and triple-decker bunk beds that accommodates 20 comfortably. HFO would like to welcome your group or team for hours or weeks-long stays.
