Adventure

At Hope for Opelousas, we’re committed to helping our students grow into confident, compassionate leaders—equipped both mentally and physically for the road ahead. Through meaningful experiences that challenge and inspire, our students learn to lead with courage, serve with humility, and build strong connections rooted in faith and community.

THE HFO ADVENTURE CREW LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

‘Adventure Crew’ consists of the student leadership of HFO—some of our high school students who are up for a little challenge!

Backpacking and canoeing sets the stage for intense team building, mentoring and leadership training, while students learn about their own ability to succeed in surprising situations. Previous trips have seen the heights of Tracy City, Tennessee and Durango, Colorado, as well a hike from rim-to-rim of the Grand Canyon.

From training and succeeding in Adventure Crew I have learned that I should never give up on myself.

KIDS ACROSS AMERICA

The adventure camp called Kids Across America is a week-long experience that provides opportunities for swimming, hiking, climbing and Christian fellowship. KAA is a Christian Sports Camp for urban youth where our kids are led by college counselors hand -picked to love and lead our kids during their stay at camp. During camp the message of “God is first, others second, and I’m third” is brought home to the campers.

we subsidize the cost for camp and summer programming by selling art and seeking sponsorships. get more information here:

ADVENTURE NEAR AND FAR

We make sure that HFO students get to experience field trips geared towards rewarding their hard work, providing fantastic life experiences, and having plenty of fun! Our enrichment programs are sure to explore Opelousas and the surrounding areas providing inspirational speakers, cultural experiences, art programming, athletics and more. Some of our favorite destinations for these trips have included The Insectarium and Audubon Zoo in New Orleans, LSU football games, and art and culture events.

GROW HOPE GARDEN

Started in 2021, our garden is like a hidden treasure in the heart of campus, marked by a “Grow Hope” sign. This magical spot lets students dive into the fun of getting their hands dirty and watching results bloom. From tiny seeds to huge flowers, towering okra plants, and sprawling tomato vines, we witness God’s handiwork up close. The garden also teaches life lessons—just like with anything worth having, a big harvest comes from rolling up our sleeves, putting in the effort, and giving it care!
