Opelousas, LA – Hope for Opelousas, a local nonprofit dedicated to providing tutoring services and mentorship to Opelousas youth, celebrated the grand opening of its new Junior High House with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house. The installation of this new larger, enhanced building is part of the continued strategic growth plan of the organization to have the capacity to welcome more students per grade.

“When our program started, we only had one house on our campus which significantly limited how many kids and families we could serve,” said Loren Carriere, Executive Director of Hope for Opelousas. “Now, 14 years later, we have expanded our campus to include six buildings, allowing us to fulfill our vision of doubling our program size over the next 5 years.”

Since 2008, Hope for Opelousas has welcomed hundreds of children and teens onto their campus, serving students from first grade up through 12th. The tutoring services are paired intentional one-on-one relationships with staff and volunteers to support the students’ educational growth. In addition, Hope for Opelousas has created a safe place for the kids to spend time and participate in activities like a gardening program, bible studies and other enrichment activities.

“We are incredibly thankful and blessed to have added this new Junior High House to our campus for our students. This expansion aligns with what Hope for Opelousas’ goal has always been: that, in welcoming our students, their families, and the community we will create a better tomorrow for Opelousas and prove that Love Changes Everything”.
