One Year Internships

There are 2 components to our year-long internships: Community development and Discipleship

Community Development

Your work experience will be broken up into two six month sessions.  One   session will be spent working directly with Hope for Opelousas in our resource center and tutoring program.  The other session you would be connected with another ministry in Acadiana that will offer diversified experience for you in your time here.  This part of the internship is aimed to give you a more focused experience in your area of interest.

While working with HFO you could expect that your jobs would include but not be limited to:

  • Staffing resource center
  • Helping to connect the needs of the community with the resources available
  • Property Maintenance
  • Developing educational and leadership programs for kids
  • Taking kids on field trips
  • Tutoring in the afterschool program

Discipleship

You will also go through discipleship training throughout the entire 12 months, meeting with the other interns and HFO staff regularly.  We believe this time will be valuable to your experience here in Opelousas.   It will be a time of debriefing and encouragement as you share your experiences with each other.  Here are some things to expect from our discipleship component.

  • 1 on1 mentoring with a member of the community
  • Discipleship training sessions
  • Book study with interns and HFO staff
