Hope on the Hill
Hope on the Hill is a new and developing after-school tutoring program in the Hill neighborhood intended to strengthen basic literacy and math skills of the Hill neighborhood school-age children. The program takes place at 330 East Madison Street, which is on Madison Street just one block east of Union Street.
The program, which began in August 2008, is held Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from about 3:00 – 6:30 p.m. We are blessed to have a group of committed volunteers who are helping to make this program a success. The volunteers work one-on-one or in small groups with the students who range from 4th grade to Junior High School age to tutor and mentor the young people who attend each day.
We hope that our ministry is one avenue God will use to show his incarnate love for the people of our city. In addition to the academic aspects of the program, we also take time to play sports and games with the kids. Our director, Loren, also spends time each week in Bible study with the students. There are snacks available for the kids when they arrive, and once a week, a meal is provided for the kids before they leave.
